About the brand
Nisonic AS is a medical software company founded in 2017 in Trondheim, Norway. Ultrasound experts and neurosurgeons have worked together on its method since 2013; it was developed by engineers at SINTEF in Trondheim and neurosurgeons at Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital, University of Cape Town, South Africa.
The company develops FAST-ICP, software that analyses transorbital ultrasound images of the optic nerve sheath to detect raised intracranial pressure (ICP) without a sensor inserted through a cranial burr hole. Its first CE-marked product, the Nisonic P-100 ultrasound system, followed in 2021.
Nisonic's methods have been studied in children, in adults with traumatic brain injury and in adults with aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage, and the company reports a dataset of around 200,000 ultrasound records used to train its AI models.
- Non-invasive ICP detection
- Transorbital ultrasound
- Optic nerve sheath biomarkers (ONSD, DI)
- AI-based ultrasound image analysis
