Colposcopy equipment is more than the colposcope itself. A working room needs the instrument that magnifies the cervix, an examination light and chair, specula, biopsy forceps, solutions, an electrosurgical generator if treatment is offered on the same visit, and smoke evacuation. This guide is for clinics in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and across the UAE that are planning or upgrading a colposcopy service, and it explains how to build the room.
The colposcope and the examination setup
The colposcope is a binocular or video magnifier on a stand, with a light source and, in most models, filters and a magnification changer. Look at the optical quality, the working distance, the stand's stability, the documentation options and whether the instrument is video-based. Types and selection are covered in our guide to colposcope types and buying; Beckfinity does not list a colposcope in its catalogue, so ask our team what can be sourced.
Place the colposcope so that the doctor sits comfortably with the patient in lithotomy position, and leave space for an assistant and the trolley. Check that the cables and the stand wheels do not obstruct the walkway.
Light, chair and instruments
A separate examination light helps for the general part of the consultation. The SIMEON Sim.LED 3500+ is a lightweight examination light with a large homogeneous light field; the manufacturer gives 90,000 lx at 1 m and a colour rendering index of Ra 96, and it can be mounted on the ceiling or wall or used as a mobile version.
For the instruments, the REDA gynecology instruments range includes Cusco, Pederson, Collin and Sims vaginal specula, tenaculum, uterine sounds and biopsy punch forceps. Colposcopy forceps are the biopsy punch type used to take directed biopsies; check the jaw type and the length with the clinician.
Solutions used during the examination, such as acetic acid and iodine, need labelled containers and a safe place on the trolley. Keep the specimen containers pre-labelled with the laboratory's requirements to avoid mix-ups.

LEEP generator for see-and-treat colposcopy
Many colposcopy services offer large loop excision of the transformation zone (LEEP) on the same visit. This requires an electrosurgical generator with settings for loop electrodes. The BOWA ARC 350 is an all-purpose HF generator with touch control and four configurable outputs, two monopolar and two bipolar, rated at up to 400 W; BOWA lists gynaecology among its applications. Confirm with the manufacturer which loop electrodes and settings suit your procedure.
Our article on LEEP equipment covers generator selection in more detail. A return electrode with contact monitoring is part of safe use; the ARC 350 has EASY neutral-electrode monitoring.
Smoke evacuation and room requirements
Electrosurgery produces smoke that should not be inhaled by staff or patient. The BOWA SHE SHA is a smoke evacuation system with a four-stage filter including ULPA-15 and activated carbon, reported to filter particles down to 0.1 µm with 99.999 % efficiency. It starts automatically via a universal sensor, has three suction levels and a noise level of not more than 55 dBA.
Plan the room with a sink, good ventilation, enough sockets for the generator, evacuator and colposcope, and a safe place for the return electrode and the foot switch. Ask your engineer to check the electrical installation.
Also think about patient comfort and privacy: a changing area, a clean-to-dirty flow for instruments and a waiting space close to the room all affect how many patients you can see in a session.
Colposcopy in the UAE: training and next steps
Clinicians who start colposcopy in Dubai or elsewhere in the UAE should check the training and credentialing expectations of their licensing authority and professional societies, since requirements change. Training courses exist in the region and abroad. We do not provide training, but we can help with the equipment side.
Beckfinity's team can prepare a list for your colposcopy room with the generator, evacuator, light and instruments. Contact us for a consultation or quotation.
Frequently asked questions
What equipment is needed for a colposcopy room?
A colposcope, an examination light, a gynecological chair, specula, biopsy forceps, solutions and, if you treat, a generator and smoke evacuator.
What are colposcopy forceps?
Biopsy punch forceps used to take directed samples from the cervix during colposcopy.
Do I need a generator for colposcopy?
Only if you offer treatment such as LEEP on the same visit. Diagnostic colposcopy does not require it.
Why is smoke evacuation needed?
Electrosurgery generates smoke that should be removed at source to protect staff and patient.
