The SIMEON Sim.LED 500 is the middle model of the BusinessLine range, a family of freely combinable surgical light heads for value-focused operating rooms. Together with the Sim.LED 450 and 700, it lets a hospital match lighting to a small procedure room or a specialised OR. This guide compares the three heads and shows typical combinations.
The three heads at a glance
BusinessLine offers three sizes: the compact Sim.LED 450, the versatile Sim.LED 500 and the powerful Sim.LED 700. Each is available in multicolour (MC) and single-colour (SC) versions. They share technology with the HighLine range: RSRS reflector technology, sun.LED colour rendering, my.GRIP handle and my.LED presets, Anti.BAC coating and expandability with Sim.CAM and Sim.SCREEN.
- Sim.LED 700 and 500: central illuminance 160,000 lx at 1 m, dimming range 48,000 to 160,000 lx.
- Sim.LED 450: 140,000 lx, dimming range 42,000 to 140,000 lx.
- Light field d10 at 1 m: 170 to 300 mm for the 700, 170 to 290 mm for the 500, and 140 to 230 mm (MC) or 140 to 250 mm (SC) for the 450.
- Ra 96 on all three, LED service life above 60,000 hours.
Which head for which room
The 450 suits smaller procedure rooms, day surgery and rooms where the ceiling height or the table area is limited. The 500 is the all-rounder for general surgery theatres. The 700 has the largest dome and fits rooms with demanding procedures or where one light must cover a large operating field.
The matching depends on the table area, the ceiling height and the type of cases. Ask the manufacturer for guidance and look at the room dimensions. For the general selection logic see how to choose a surgical light.
Combining two heads
BusinessLine heads can be freely combined on a central axis, so a theatre can run a 700 with a 500 or two matched domes of the same size. Two domes bring redundancy, since the field remains lit if one head is out of use, and they allow light from several directions, which helps against shadows.
A common value combination is a larger main head and a smaller second head for the assistant side. Use Sim.FLEX suspension if you want to add arms later, since it takes up to four arms on one axis and can be extended after installation. For more on arms see surgical light suspension.
MC or SC: colour options
The MC version offers five colour temperatures from 3,500 to 5,500 K, while the SC version is fixed at 4,500 K. In a shared theatre, MC gives each surgeon a choice, but a dedicated room for one speciality can be well served by SC, which is simpler to operate. Both keep colour rendering constant thanks to sun.LED.
Control is through the cardanic handle or a wall panel, with the sterile my.GRIP handle and my.LED presets stored for different users. This makes day-to-day work simpler in a value-oriented room.
Cameras, monitors and mobile versions
All three heads are ready for Sim.CAM cameras and Sim.SCREEN monitor holders, which brings the video option to a value-level room. A mobile stand is available for the SIMEON range, with optional removable batteries, see SIMEON mobile surgical lights.
Positioning against HighLine and next steps
BusinessLine keeps the core technology of the Sim.LED 5000 HighLine at a more accessible level, while the flagship 8000 adds active shadow management and the endoscopy light. See the BusinessLine product page for details.
