The flat panel detector price depends on size, scintillator, wired or wireless design, how well it integrates with your generator and software, and the warranty behind it. A detector is the most expensive single part of a digital radiography room, so a poorly specified purchase is costly. This guide sets out the cost drivers and a checklist for buying a DR panel for an existing X-ray room in the UAE. We do not quote prices here.
Why detector prices vary so much
Two panels of the same size can be priced very differently, because the price reflects the scintillator, the readout electronics, the mechanical build, the software package and the manufacturer's support. A panel sold as a component for an OEM may not include the console software that a complete system includes, which changes what you are really comparing.
Before requesting a quote, read what a detector does in how a flat panel detector works and the differences between flat panel detector types.
Size and format
Panel size is the first driver. Larger formats cost more to produce. Typical general-radiography sizes include 35 x 43 cm and 43 x 43 cm, the latter being a common choice for fixed rooms. Smaller sizes suit extremity, paediatric and neonatal work, and larger or long-format panels are used for stitching.
Match size to your caseload. A busy chest and skeletal room benefits from a large panel, while a clinic with extremity work may not need one. In Villa's Moviplan iC DR room, fixed and wireless flat-panel detectors are combined in the table and chest stand. Also consider the detector weight and thickness, because a heavy panel is harder to handle in a wall stand or for cross-table use.
CsI vs GOS, wired vs wireless
The scintillator, usually caesium iodide (CsI) or gadolinium oxysulphide (GOS), affects sensitivity and often the price. CsI panels typically offer higher dose efficiency and are generally priced higher; GOS panels are more economical. Check manufacturer data on image quality rather than assuming.
A wireless detector costs more than a cabled one because it adds a battery, a wireless module and tougher housing, but it can move between table, wall stand and mobile unit. Ask about battery life, charging time and spare batteries. See wireless flat panel detector for a deeper discussion.

Buying for an existing room: integration is the hidden cost
If you are replacing a CR reader or a failed panel, integration decides success. The detector must communicate with your generator, collimator and acquisition software, and the vendor must support the interface. Without that, you may need a new console or workstation. Read CR to DR upgrade for retrofit planning.
Ask whether the detector is supplied with acquisition software and DICOM, whether it syncs with your generator by exposure detection or cable, and who calibrates it on site. Request written compatibility confirmation for your generator model.
Warranty, handling and total cost
Detectors are fragile and a drop can destroy one. Check what the warranty covers, whether drop damage is excluded, the repair turnaround and whether a loan unit is provided. Staff training and protective cases reduce replacement risk. See flat panel detector care.
For the wider picture of how a complete room is priced, read X-ray machine price. Compare total cost over several years, including service, rather than only the purchase value. Ask for the warranty period for the panel itself and separately for the battery, and find out whether firmware and calibration updates are included.
Request a detector quotation from Beckfinity
Beckfinity supplies Villa digital radiography systems, including the Moviplan iC DR. Tell us your generator model, room and caseload and we will advise on detector options and prepare a quotation.
Frequently asked questions
What determines flat panel detector price?
Mainly size, scintillator type, wired or wireless design, readout performance, software and integration, and warranty terms.
Why is a wireless flat panel detector more expensive?
It includes a battery, wireless module and a more robust housing, and it offers flexibility between table, wall stand and mobile use.
Can I buy a detector for my existing X-ray generator?
Often yes, but compatibility with the generator and software must be confirmed in writing, and some systems need a new console.
Is CsI better than GOS?
CsI panels usually offer higher dose efficiency, GOS panels are more economical. The best choice depends on your exams and budget.
