The portable x ray machine price depends on a handful of technical choices, not on a single list figure: generator power, whether the system is analog or digital, the size and type of detector, motorised drive and battery design, plus the service package. This guide explains each cost driver so that a hospital can compare quotations on a like-for-like basis. We do not quote prices here; a firm quotation needs your specification.
Why there is no standard portable x-ray machine cost
Mobile X-ray systems range from simple analog units for occasional bedside films to fully digital, motorised systems used daily in ICU, emergency and operating theatres. Two units that look alike on the ward can differ widely in generator output, detector, software and build quality, so the price of one cannot be applied to the other.
For that reason, begin with a written specification: the departments served, the number of exams per day, patient types (adult, paediatric, neonatal), and whether images must go to PACS. Quotations for a portable digital x-ray machine can then be compared properly. See our buying guide for portable x-ray machines for the selection side.
Generator power and tube
Generator power, in kW, determines how short an exposure can be and how well the unit images larger patients or dense anatomy. Higher power usually means a larger or more expensive generator and tube assembly and a heavier chassis. For example, Villa's Visitor T30 M-DR is available with 32 kW or 40 kW generators, and Perlove's PLX M5320 carries a 50 kW high-frequency generator.
More power is not automatically better for every ward. Match the output to the exam types and consider weight and manoeuvrability. Background on this specification is in X-ray generator power.
Detector: size, wireless and image software
In a digital mobile system the flat-panel detector is a major part of the price. Size matters: the Villa Visitor T30 units use a 35 x 43 cm portable flat-panel detector, while the Perlove PLX M5320 uses a 17 x 17 inch wireless detector, with an optional 10 x 12 inch detector for incubators and NICU. Wireless detectors, scintillator type and ruggedness all affect cost, as does a spare detector.
Image acquisition software with post-processing and DICOM connectivity is also priced into the system. The Visitor T30 M-DR offers a 19-inch touchscreen with DICOM integration, and the PLX M5320 includes a DICOM 3.0 workstation for PACS transfer. Check which functions are included and which are optional.
Motorised drive, battery and mechanics
A motorised drive is a significant cost element but reduces staff strain, particularly with heavy units on long corridors and ramps. Battery design also matters. The T30 M-DR uses battery-powered exposures and a motorised drive with a front bumper with anti-collision function. The PLX M5320 uses a supercapacitor for exposures and a separate lithium battery for driving.
Tube arm reach and column rotation affect usability in tight ICU bays. The Visitor T30 R-DR is built around a rotating column for exams parallel to the bed, and the T30 M-DR has a rotating column of plus or minus 320 degrees with a telescopic arm. See the overview types of mobile x-ray units.

Total cost: licensing, service and accessories
The purchase price is only part of the budget. Operating a radiation-emitting device in the UAE involves licensing and registration through the relevant authorities, including the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation for radiation sources, so confirm current requirements and ask your supplier what support they provide. See FANR licence for X-ray equipment.
Add radiation protection (lead aprons, dosimetry), installation and training, preventive maintenance, spare parts, and the cost of downtime. Ask for the service response time and spare detector arrangements in writing. For ward use, also review mobile X-ray in the ICU.

Frequently asked questions
What determines portable x ray machine price?
Mainly generator power, analog or digital design, detector size and type, motorised drive and battery system, software and the service package.
Is a digital portable x-ray machine more expensive than analog?
Generally yes, because it includes a flat-panel detector and acquisition software, but it removes film or cassette handling and speeds up the workflow.
Are there costs beyond the purchase price?
Yes. Budget for licensing, installation, training, radiation protection, maintenance, spare parts and possible spare detectors.
How can I compare quotations fairly?
Use the same written specification for every supplier and compare generator power, detector, software, warranty, service and training items line by line.
