Merivaara Q-Flow LED Surgical Light: Fluent, Vision and Intelligent Compared

Updated 14 October 2026 · 4 min read

The Merivaara Q-Flow LED surgical light is a family of operating lights from the Finnish Lojer group, designed to disturb the air in the operating room as little as possible. It is offered in three versions, Fluent, Vision and Intelligent, with 700 mm or 560 mm heads. This overview explains the design, the differences between versions and what to check when you compare it with other premium lights.

Lojer, Merivaara and where Q-Flow comes from

Lojer Group is a Finnish manufacturer founded in 1919. It acquired Merivaara Oy in June 2022, adding operating tables, surgical lights, OR integration and medical pendants. These operating-room products continue under the Merivaara brand, produced in Lahti, Finland, and Merivaara operates in more than 120 countries.

Q-Flow is the Merivaara surgical light family. It sits alongside the smaller Q-Flow 1 and Q-Flow 2 examination and minor surgery lights, and the SOLO, DUO, TRIO and QUAD suspension systems. The whole line is described on the Lojer brand page.

The smaller members of the family are worth knowing for clinics with several room types. Q-Flow 1 is an examination light with up to 50,000 lux and a 240 mm field, while Q-Flow 2 is a minor surgery light with up to 100,000 lux and a 150 to 220 mm field. Both have a detachable sterilizable handle, are operated with one hand and won a Red Dot award in 2024, so a hospital can keep one visual and technical language from the consulting room to the main theatre.

The low-turbulence design idea

Q-Flow surgical lights are shaped so that air in the operating room flows optimally, helping the ventilation work properly and keeping particles away from the surgical field. For 700 mm light heads Lojer states a turbulence intensity of 15.9 percent, measured per DIN 1946, against an industry standard requirement of below 37.5 percent.

This matters most in rooms with laminar airflow, where a large flat dome above the table can disrupt the clean air. If infection control is a priority for your theatre, ask each manufacturer for comparable airflow data and test method rather than a general claim.

Fluent, Vision and Intelligent: the three versions

Fluent focuses on functional simplicity. Vision adds a camera option, including wireless 4K, and flexible viewing angles. Intelligent adds the Intueri sterile user interface and Dynamic Obstacle Compensation (DOC), which adjusts the light when a head or hand blocks part of the dome. Each version comes with 700 mm or 560 mm heads, and the Q-Flow product page lists the combinations.

Choose the version by workflow. A theatre that records or streams surgery benefits from Vision or Intelligent, while a theatre that wants a robust light without extras may find Fluent sufficient. Optical data: lux, colour and LED life

According to the manufacturer data, Q-Flow reaches a maximum illumination at 1 m of 160 klux for the 700 mm head (with 90 LEDs) and 140 klux for the 560 mm head (with 69 LEDs). Colour temperatures are 3,700, 4,400 and 5,100 K, colour rendering is Ra 98, R9 98 and R13 98, dimming is integrated from 10 to 100 percent and LED lifetime is stated as more than 60,000 hours.

These are strong values, but compare them with other manufacturers on the same basis: same test conditions, same field size and the same depth of illumination. Request the test report and, where possible, see the lights side by side in a demonstration room.

Ask also how the sterile interface and obstacle compensation behave with two heads, and which settings are stored per surgeon, because these features only deliver value if the team uses them daily.

Suspension, integration and how to specify

Q-Flow is carried by Merivaara suspension systems that combine surgical lights and monitors: SOLO in mobile, wall and ceiling versions, DUO, TRIO and QUAD in ceiling configurations, with QUAD carrying four horizontally swivelling arms. See the Q-Flow suspension systems for the ceiling tube options. The lights are compatible with OpenOR and MeriMote for integration and remote control.

To specify Q-Flow, state the number of heads, head diameter, version, camera need, ceiling height and emergency power. Beckfinity's specialists can prepare a quotation for Lojer lights and confirm the UAE registration status on request.
