Overview
Torsional ultrasonic instruments with wide straight jaws designed for transecting liver parenchyma in open and laparoscopic surgery.
BOWA describes the LOTUS liver resector as ultrasonic shears designed specifically for liver tissue. Torsional ultrasound coagulates and dissects the parenchyma so that structures in the liver bed can be exposed, skeletonised and isolated, while the wide jaw surface delivers energy over a large area for controlled haemostasis.
Two instruments are available, for open surgery and for laparoscopy, each with a reusable transducer and a sterile handpiece; current versions have a 360° rotatable shaft. They run on the LOTUS generator (series 4, type LG4).
