Medical equipment list for clinic opening in the UAE, room by room

Updated 14 October 2026 · 4 min read

A practical medical equipment list for clinic projects starts from the rooms and the procedures planned, not from a catalogue. This guide walks through the outpatient and day surgery centre areas typical in the UAE: consultation, procedure room, sterilization, recovery, gases and support systems. It names what to specify in each, so owners and planners can brief suppliers properly.

Start from services, then rooms, then equipment

List the procedures the clinic intends to perform and the licence category you will apply for. The service list drives room count, ventilation, gases and staffing, and the equipment follows. A dermatology or ENT clinic with minor procedures has a very different list from a day surgery centre with endoscopy and laparoscopy.

Facility licensing in the UAE is handled by DHA in Dubai, DOH in Abu Dhabi and MOHAP for the northern emirates, each with its own facility guidelines. Confirm the current requirements for your category before you freeze the equipment list, and see our overview of equipment requirements for a new healthcare facility.

Consultation and examination rooms

Each consulting room usually needs an examination couch, a task light, a height-adjustable stool, a handwash basin, a vitals set (blood pressure, thermometer, pulse oximeter) and a lockable trolley. Specialties add their own diagnostic tools, such as a colposcope or an ENT unit.

A good examination light matters more than it seems, because it affects colour rendering of skin and mucosa. A model such as the Sim.LED 3500+ is offered in ceiling, wall or mobile versions, with 90,000 lx central illuminance at 1 m and Ra 96, which gives flexibility if the room layout changes.

Minor procedure room equipment

The minor procedure room is where the list grows. The core set is a procedure table, a procedure light, an electrosurgical unit, suction, an instrument trolley or Mayo stand, a waste and sharps system and emergency drugs access. For distinctions between this room and a full theatre, read procedure room vs operating room.

For the table, day-surgery clinics often choose a trolley-type table that doubles for transfer and recovery. The Lojer Rapido is described as an all-in-one hydraulic table for pre-induction, transport, operation and recovery, with foot-pedal height adjustment from 650 to 1020 mm, a 160 kg safe working load, X-ray cassette rails and quick C-arm access.

For electrosurgery, a unit such as the BOWA ARC 350 offers two monopolar and two bipolar outputs, up to 400 W, with procedure presets and neutral-electrode monitoring, so a single generator can serve several specialties.

  • Procedure table or trolley-table, with side rails and accessories.
  • Ceiling or mobile procedure light, plus a spare mobile light for power or equipment faults.
  • Electrosurgical generator with footswitch and patient return electrodes.
  • Suction unit and, where needed, a smoke evacuator.
  • Mayo stand, back table and instrument trolleys.
  • Anaesthesia or sedation monitoring and resuscitation equipment appropriate to the sedation level planned.

Sterilization and instrument management

Decide early whether the clinic reprocesses on site or contracts an external sterile service. On-site reprocessing needs a dirty-to-clean workflow, a washer-disinfector or validated manual cleaning, a steam steriliser, a sealing machine or containers, storage and record-keeping aligned with ISO 17665 principles.

Rigid containers reduce wrapping and keep sets together. The REDA container system covers full, three-quarter and half-size footprints (580, 465 and 285 × 280 mm) with Bio-Barrier valve models, so you can standardise set sizes before ordering instruments.

Recovery, gases, power and support systems

Recovery bays need patient monitoring, oxygen and suction at each bay, and a crash cart with a defibrillator within a short, clear route. Many clinics use medical gas outlets fed by a manifold; others begin with cylinders. If you build a pipeline, it must follow ISO 7396-1 principles and be tested before use.

Do not forget back-up power for critical loads, hand hygiene stations, sharps and clinical waste areas, IT and PACS links, and an asset register. Our operating theatre equipment checklist is a useful companion when the clinic includes a theatre.

Before you order

Ask each supplier for registration status, installation scope, user training, service coverage and spare-parts availability, then compare offers on a total cost of ownership basis. Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum equipment for a minor procedure room?

Typically a procedure table, a procedure light, an electrosurgical unit, suction, an instrument stand, sharps and waste handling, monitoring suited to the sedation level, and emergency equipment. Your licensing authority's guidelines define what is mandatory.

Does a small clinic need its own sterilization room?

Only if it reprocesses on site. Otherwise a contracted sterile service can be used, but you still need a compliant point-of-use pre-cleaning and transport process.

Should I choose a table that works as a trolley?

In day surgery, trolley-type tables can shorten transfers because the patient stays on one surface from pre-op to recovery. Check the safe working load, height range and imaging access against your procedure mix.

Who approves the equipment list in the UAE?

The facility licensing authority for your emirate, such as DHA, DOH or MOHAP, sets requirements by facility type. Confirm the current rules before ordering.
