CT Injector Syringe, Tubing and Sets: A Cost-per-Patient Guide

Updated 14 October 2026 · 4 min read

Choosing a CT injector syringe or set is really a decision about running costs: over the life of the injector, disposables usually cost more than the console itself. This guide lists the consumables a CT injector needs, explains the difference between syringe-based and pump-tubing systems and shows a simple way to compare quotations on cost per patient. We do not publish prices, but we show which figures to ask for.

What consumables does a CT injector use?

Every contrast injector needs a fluid path that is replaced at defined intervals: a way to draw contrast and saline from their containers, a pump or syringe to pressurise them, and a patient line that connects to the cannula. The names differ by system, which is why power injector syringes, pump tubing, ct injector set and contrast injector tubing are often used interchangeably in enquiries.

In a syringe-based design, the disposables are the syringes, fill or spike sets and a connecting tube per patient. In a syringeless design such as CT motion, the main elements are the pump tubing, which stays in use for 24 hours, and the patient tubing, which is changed for each examination.

  • Syringes or pump tubing (the pressurising element)
  • Spikes or connectors for contrast and saline containers
  • Patient line to the cannula, normally single use
  • Optional items such as a Y-connector or filters, depending on the system

Syringes versus pump tubing

A ct injector syringe pair is filled for each patient or per defined session and then discarded. Pump tubing is a longer-lasting element; for CT motion and CT motion SPICY it is set up once a day, and only the patient tubing is replaced between patients. Containers of up to 500 ml (CT motion) or 1 litre (SPICY) connect directly to the tubing.

The two approaches also differ in preparation time and waste. For the full comparison see our article on syringeless and syringe injectors.

How to calculate cost per patient

Start with the cost of the daily set (pump tubing or syringe set) and divide it by the number of patients scanned in the period it is valid. For a 24-hour set, a department doing 30 patients a day carries a smaller set cost per patient than one doing 8. Add the patient line for each examination and any items replaced with every patient.

Then add the cost of contrast discarded when a container is not finished. Larger containers reduce handling but can increase waste if the list is short, so check container sizes against your daily volume. When you receive a ct injector syringe price or set price from a supplier, ask exactly what the unit contains and how many patients it may serve under the manufacturer's instructions.

Keep a simple spreadsheet with three lines: daily set cost, patient line cost and discarded contrast per day. Divide the total by the number of patients and review it quarterly; changes in volume or in container size will show immediately.

Questions to ask a supplier about disposables

Consumables are a long-term commitment, so clarify supply terms. Ask about minimum order quantities, lead time for reorders in the UAE, shelf life, storage conditions and whether sets are proprietary or compatible with other makes. A lower unit price is less important than reliable availability.

Also ask how pump tubing is validated for 24-hour use, and how the injector detects air in the pump and patient tubing; our article on multi-patient hygiene covers infection-control points. Link the discussion to your maintenance plan, because tubing, connectors and seals are the most common service items; see service and maintenance.

Frequently asked questions

Does CT motion use syringes?

No. It is a syringeless roll-pump injector. It uses pump tubing that stays in use for 24 hours and patient tubing that is changed between patients.

How often is CT injector tubing changed?

Follow the instructions for use. For CT motion, the pump tubing stays in use for 24 hours and the patient tubing is replaced for each patient.

What is the CT injector syringe price?

It varies by supplier and system, so we do not give figures. Ask for the unit contents, the number of patients it can serve and the reorder terms.

Can I use third-party tubing?

Only if the manufacturer approves it. Non-approved tubing may affect safety features such as air detection and may affect warranty.
