Flexible Ureteroscope Price: Budgeting Beyond the Purchase Cost

Updated 14 October 2026 · 4 min read

The flexible ureteroscope price quoted on an offer is only part of what a urology department will spend. Digital or fibre design, reusable or single-use format, repair frequency, the processor it needs and the reprocessing workload all change the true cost per procedure. This guide explains the main price drivers and gives UAE hospital buyers a method for building a realistic budget. It deliberately gives no figures, because prices depend on configuration, volume and current terms.

Digital vs fibre: the first price driver

A digital (sensor-tip) ureteroscope places an image sensor at the tip and gives a high-resolution image; a fibre-optic scope carries the image through a bundle of fibres to an eyepiece and camera. Digital scopes generally cost more to buy, but they also deliver a sharper picture, and the image bundle cannot develop broken-fibre black dots.

A digital scope also needs a compatible processor. The Richard Wolf BOA, COBRA and MAMBA family connects to the ENDOCAM Logic 4K controller, so if you already own that platform the additional investment is the scope itself; if not, the controller, monitor and recording must be budgeted too. See our comparison of digital and fibre-optic ureteroscopes.

Reusable vs single-use ureteroscope cost

Reusable scopes have a higher purchase cost spread across many procedures, and they carry reprocessing, leak testing, repair and replacement costs. Single-use scopes have no reprocessing, but each procedure includes a new scope. Neither is cheaper by default; the answer depends on your volume, repair rate and reprocessing costs.

To compare fairly, estimate the number of cases per year, the expected cycles before repair, the average repair cost and the staff time for reprocessing. Our guide to disposable vs reusable flexible ureteroscopes explains the trade-offs in more detail.

Scope features that change the ureteroscope price

Features affect price and clinical use. BOA is a super-slim single-channel scope with an 8.7 Fr shaft and a 6.6 Fr tip, suited to narrow anatomy and paediatric use, with 270 degree deflection up and down. COBRA is a two-channel scope with a 3.6 Fr working channel, a 2.4 Fr laser channel for fibres up to 365 µm, a laser shifter and 270 degree deflection. MAMBA is a flexible cystoscope.

Ask for the specifications that matter to your surgeons: deflection, channel size, image quality, handle ergonomics and compatibility with access sheaths and lasers. Do not compare ureteroscope price between models without comparing these features. See the BOA, COBRA and MAMBA family.

Repair, warranty and lifetime cost

Flexible scopes are delicate. Damage commonly occurs through laser fibre perforation of the working channel, bending forces and mishandling during reprocessing. Ask about the warranty, what it excludes, the price structure for repairs, loan scopes during repair and whether repair is done locally. A service agreement with fixed terms can make budgeting more predictable.

Add the cost of accessories: access sheaths, guidewires, baskets, laser fibres and irrigation sets, and the processor and laser if required. A lifetime view, stated per procedure, is the fair way to compare offers and to explain the decision to finance and procurement teams.

How to build and compare a budget

Create a simple table: purchase cost, expected procedures per scope life, repair allowance, reprocessing cost per cycle, accessories per case. Divide the total by the expected procedure count to get cost per procedure. Request quotations in the same format from each supplier so that numbers are comparable, and check UAE registration and distributor status.

Frequently asked questions

Why do flexible ureteroscope prices vary so much?

Because of design (digital or fibre), format (reusable or single-use), channel and deflection features, the processor required and the service terms.

Is a single-use ureteroscope cheaper?

Not automatically. It depends on case volume, repair rates and reprocessing cost. Compare cost per procedure.

Do I need a new processor for a digital scope?

The scope must be compatible with its processor. The Richard Wolf BOA, COBRA and MAMBA connect to the ENDOCAM Logic 4K controller.

Can you quote a price here?

No. Prices depend on configuration and terms, so request a quotation from Beckfinity.
