The microdebrider in ENT price you are quoted depends on much more than the console: handpieces, single-use blades, suction and service all shape the true cost of ownership. This guide explains each element of an ENT microdebrider machine, what to ask microdebrider manufacturers and how hospital buyers in the UAE can compare proposals on the same basis.
What a microdebrider system consists of
An ENT microdebrider, also called a shaver, is a powered system for removing soft tissue, polyps, cartilage and small bone fragments in endoscopic sinus and other minimally invasive ENT procedures. A rotating blade inside a hollow outer tube cuts tissue that is drawn through a window by suction.
A complete ENT microdebrider machine therefore has four parts: a motor console with a foot switch, a reusable handpiece, disposable or reusable blades, and a suction source with tubing and a collection container. Prices should be compared per complete working system, not per box.
Handpieces and what they add to a microdebrider price
The handpiece is where ergonomics and long-term reliability are decided. The NOUVAG Hybrid ENT Shaver handpieces are lightweight and low-vibration at 170 g, run at 300 to 6,000 rpm with up to 12 Ncm of torque, and connect to the motor via an INTRA (ISO 3964) coupling. They come in straight, concave and convex versions, and a quick-release fastener allows the angle to be turned and fixed easily.
Ask how many handpieces are included, whether you need one per theatre, and what the sterilisation and inspection requirements are. Handpiece shape options matter clinically, so a department doing both sinus and laryngeal work may want more than one version.
- Handpiece versions included: straight, concave or convex.
- Number of handpieces per console and spare policy.
- Torque, speed range and coupling type of the motor interface.
Blades, suction and recurring costs
Blades are the largest recurring item. Single-use blades remove cleaning and sharpening workload but bring a cost per case; reusable blades shift cost to sterile services. In both situations, confirm blade availability, compatibility with the handpiece and typical lead times from the supplier.
Suction is easy to overlook. In the NOUVAG design, tissue is drawn through the blade window and along the handpiece suction channel into the container of the connected vacuum pump. A dedicated pump such as the Vacuson range, with continuously adjustable vacuum, may be part of the scope or may already exist in your theatres; this should be stated in the quotation. Comparing microdebrider manufacturers and ENT microdebrider companies
Brand names such as StraightShot are searched frequently, but a fair comparison does not rely on reputation. Request the same information from each supplier: console specifications, handpiece options, blade range, suction arrangements, instructions for use and the warranty. We do not state competitor specifications here; the buyer should obtain them in writing from each manufacturer.
Think about the specialty mix. A shaver is useful in ENT, but the same motor platform can serve other departments. NOUVAG's modular approach is explained in our article on the surgical motor system, and our hub article on the microdebrider in ENT covers clinical use.
Service, training and regulatory checks
Support in the UAE decides how long a device stays productive. Ask where repairs are done, whether a loan console is available, what staff training is included and how fast spare handpieces arrive. Installation and preventive maintenance can be arranged through our maintenance service.
Medical devices are registered with the relevant authority, and facility licences are issued at emirate level by bodies such as DHA or DOH. Confirm current requirements before ordering.
- Itemised quotation: console, handpieces, foot switch, blades, suction.
- Warranty, loan units and local spare parts.
- User training and sterile services guidance.

Frequently asked questions
What determines the price of an ENT microdebrider?
The scope of supply: console, handpieces, foot switch, blades, suction and service. Reusable or single-use blades also change the running cost per case.
Is the handpiece included in the microdebrider machine price?
Not always. Check whether the quotation lists the handpiece versions and quantities you need.
Do I need a separate suction pump?
Tissue is carried through the handpiece to a connected vacuum pump container, so a pump with adjustable vacuum is required. It may already be available in your theatre.
How should I compare ENT microdebrider companies?
Compare written specifications, instructions for use, blade availability, training and the UAE service route rather than brand reputation.
