When a hospital looks for a nephroscope for sale, the first surprise is that the scope itself is only part of the purchase. A working percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) set also needs sheaths, dilators, graspers, lithotripsy energy, irrigation and imaging, and each of these changes the nephroscope price. This guide lists the items, the factors that set cost and the questions to put to suppliers. It gives no price figures.
What a PCNL set includes
A nephroscope set normally contains the telescope, an inner sheath or working-channel insert, one or more outer working sheaths, an obturator, a set of dilators or an access sheath system, a light cable and often instruments such as graspers and stone forceps. The set may or may not include a lithotripsy probe, so read the quotation line by line. Our explainer what is a nephroscope describes each part.
The wider PCNL service also needs lithotripsy energy (ultrasonic, pneumatic, laser or a combination), a camera and monitor, irrigation with pressure control, fluoroscopy or ultrasound for access, and a plan for drainage after surgery. The list is expanded in PCNL instruments and equipment.
- Telescope, inner and outer sheaths, obturator
- Dilators or access sheath system
- Graspers, forceps and baskets
- Lithotripsy probe or laser fibre compatible with the channel
- Light cable, camera head and monitor
- Irrigation and suction tubing
Nephroscope price factors
Price depends on the type and size. Standard rigid nephroscopes, mini PCNL systems with smaller sheaths and flexible nephroscopes belong to different cost classes. It also depends on whether optics are rod-lens or digital, on the channel layout, on the number of sheaths and dilators in the set, on the accessories included and on warranty and service.
Cost in other markets, for example a nephroscope price in India, is not a valid reference for the UAE because configurations, taxes, import terms and service levels differ. Request an itemised UAE quotation for your specification.
Nephroscope brands: Storz, Olympus and others
Buyers often search by brand, such as nephroscope Storz or nephroscope Olympus. We do not quote other manufacturers' data. Compare any brand on neutral criteria: telescope quality and viewing angle, channel size and layout, sheath sizes, compatibility with your lithotripsy devices and camera, durability of the optics, sterilisation method, spare parts and local service.
Richard Wolf is a long-established German endoscopy manufacturer founded in 1906; its range for urology can be explored on the Richard Wolf brand page. Ask Beckfinity's specialists about the availability of specific PCNL components in the range.
Sizing the purchase: standard or mini PCNL
The size of the nephroscope sheath determines the tract size, which is a clinical decision, and also the range of instruments and lithotripsy devices that can be used. Many departments start with a standard system and add mini PCNL sets as experience grows, or the reverse. See nephroscope sizes and mini PCNL for details.
Plan how many sets you need. A busy PCNL service should hold a spare telescope and sheaths so that damage during a case does not cancel the list, and sterile processing should be able to turn sets around within the working day.
Hidden costs to include in the budget
Beyond the quote, count the cost of reprocessing: rigid nephroscope components usually go through autoclave sterilisation, which affects cycle time, tray design and the number of sets needed. Also include replacement of consumable items such as seals and sheaths that wear out, repair of damaged optics, and training for new theatre staff.
Finally, consider compatibility over time. If you later add a laser or a new camera platform, check that the nephroscope channel and sheaths remain suitable, because a small mismatch can force the purchase of new accessories.
Questions to ask suppliers and next step
Ask for a datasheet of every component, the list of what is and is not in the set, the warranty terms, the repair turnaround, loaner availability, the cleaning and sterilisation instructions, and the training offered to nurses and technicians. Check that the supplier documents device registration with the relevant UAE authority and understands your facility's DHA or DOH licensing context.

Frequently asked questions
Why is nephroscope price hard to compare?
Because sets differ in sheaths, dilators, accessories, optics type and service. Compare itemised quotations for the same specification.
Does a nephroscope price include lithotripsy equipment?
Usually not. Probes, lasers, camera and irrigation are separate lines, so check what the quotation contains.
Is a price from India or another market valid for the UAE?
No. Configurations, import terms and service levels differ. Request a UAE-specific quotation.
How many nephroscope sets should a department own?
It depends on volume. Busy services keep a spare telescope and sheaths and make sure sterile processing can turn sets around quickly.
