SIMEON Sim.FLEX modular suspension for operating room planners

Updated 14 October 2026 · 4 min read

SIMEON Sim.FLEX is a modular suspension system that carries surgical lights, cameras and monitors on one central axis, and it can be extended after installation. This overview is for OR planners who need a layout that works today and still leaves room for a camera, a second monitor or a different table position tomorrow.

What Sim.FLEX is

The SIMEON suspension arm system takes up to four arms on one central axis for positioning surgical or examination lights and monitors. The patented Sim.FLEX version is modular: further arms can be added at any time, even after installation, which protects the investment as the OR evolves.

In practice this means that a theatre can start with two lights and later add a monitor arm for an endoscopy tower, or a camera arm, without opening the ceiling again. The key condition is that the central axis and the ceiling were specified for the future load from the start.

Arm length, reach and range of motion

Arm lengths of up to 2,000 mm make the system suitable for hybrid ORs, where the table, an imaging system and the lights have to share a large space. SIMEON spring arms offer a range of movement more than 20 percent greater than before, from +45° to -75°, which helps procedures performed seated.

A longer arm gives reach but increases leverage on the axis, so the rated load and the stiffness of the structure matter. Ask for the load table by arm length and check it against your devices. For general sizing logic see surgical light suspension systems.

Lights, cameras and monitors

Sim.FLEX carries SIMEON surgical lights such as the Sim.LED 8000, and also the Sim.CAM cameras and Sim.SCREEN monitor holders. Sim.CAM can be mounted on its own arm, and Sim.SCREEN holds commercially available monitors up to 32 inches, as a single or double holder, with neat cable routing.

  • Surgical or examination lights on separate arms.
  • Monitor holder for one or two screens up to 32 inches.
  • Camera on a dedicated arm, moved between ORs without tools.
  • Anti.BAC antibacterial coating on the arm systems.

Planning the layout

Start with the table position and the zones where the surgeon, assistant and scrub nurse work. Place the axis so that the lights can reach all of them, and position monitors in the line of sight of the team without blocking laminar airflow. Draw the layout in two or three table positions, since the table is often turned or tilted.

Coordinate with the ceiling supply unit, the air panel and other booms. A supply unit from the same manufacturer, such as SIMEON Sim.CARRY, can be planned together with the suspension for a coherent look and clear separation of tasks.

Typical configurations

A general surgery theatre often uses one axis with two light arms and one monitor arm. An endoscopy or laparoscopy room may need two monitor arms and one light. A hybrid OR with imaging equipment usually needs the long arms and a careful check of the clearance with the imaging system.

Write down the configuration for today and for the next five years, and choose an axis that can carry both. This costs little at the start and avoids a costly change of the whole suspension later.

Installation and maintenance

The ceiling must carry the total load, and mounting needs the correct fixings and trained installers. Plan for commissioning, with balance adjustment of each arm and a final check of brakes and cables. See our installation service.

In service, check balance, brake holding, the condition of cable guides and cover plates once a year, and after any change in the equipment carried. A planned inspection prevents drift and noise.

How to proceed

Send us the room plan, the table positions and your list of lights, cameras and monitors. Beckfinity can propose a Sim.FLEX layout with the manufacturer and quote it together with installation. Contact our specialists for a quote or a consultation.

Frequently asked questions

How many arms can Sim.FLEX carry?

Up to four arms on one central axis, for lights and monitors.

Can I extend the system later?

Yes. The patented Sim.FLEX version is modular and further arms can be added even after installation.

How long can the arms be?

Arm lengths of up to 2,000 mm are listed, which makes the system suitable for hybrid ORs.

What monitor size does Sim.SCREEN hold?

Commercially available monitors up to 32 inches, as a single or double holder.
