The MZ Liberec SPR suspension system is a family of compact, spring-balanced arms that carry operating and examination lights, cameras, monitors, X-ray protective screens and other devices. It is used in operating theatres, examination rooms and patient rooms. This guide explains the SPR variants, their load ratings and where each fits, so planners can specify the right arm for the job.
What the SPR system is
SPR uses compact spring-balanced arms to carry equipment from the ceiling or wall. Balance, range and stop functions are easy to readjust, so an arm can be adapted when the load changes, for example after a monitor upgrade. Slip rings allow 360-degree rotation, reduced to 330 degrees when used with a monitor.
MZ Liberec a.s., based in the Czech Republic, has produced medical gas distribution systems and ceiling equipment since 1957. SPR complements its pendants: where a pendant delivers gases and power, SPR positions lights, cameras and displays. Customer-specific OEM versions are also offered.
SPR 10, SPR 11 and SPR 23
The range covers SPR 10 in single, duo, trio and quattro versions for heavier loads up to 28 kg per arm, SPR 11 in single and duo versions for up to 12 kg per arm, and SPR 23 for examination and small surgical lights. Swivel arm length is 500-1100 mm.
Choose SPR 10 for monitors and heavier devices, SPR 11 for lighter loads such as smaller displays or cameras, and SPR 23 for examination lights. Always add the weight of adapters, cables and accessories to the equipment weight before comparing it with the rating. When one arm per equipment item is not enough, multi-arm versions share a central axis.
For equipment close to the maximum load, avoid running at the limit. Leave a margin for accessories, future upgrades and the dynamic effect of moving the arm, and check the balance setting after any change of device.
- SPR 10: up to 28 kg per arm; single, duo, trio, quattro
- SPR 11: up to 12 kg per arm; single, duo
- SPR 23: examination and small surgical lights
- Swivel arm length 500-1100 mm; ceiling cover 400 x 400 or 580 x 580 mm
Monitors, cameras and X-ray shields
For monitors, SPR gives repeatable positions at eye level without floor stands; see surgical monitor ceiling mounts for a full planning guide. For an X-ray shield ceiling suspension, SPR is designed to carry X-ray protective screens, but treat the shield as a separate load case and verify weight, centre of gravity and parking position against the arm and ceiling fixing.
In hybrid rooms the C-arm path decides where shields and displays can go. Plan swing envelopes on the drawing and check clearances with other ceiling equipment. For related ceiling coordination, read ceiling airflow and equipment placement.
In an examination or small procedure room, SPR 23 can carry a light over the couch while a separate arm holds a monitor or camera, keeping the floor clear and making cleaning faster.
Hygiene, mounting and coordination
The arms have an antibacterial powder coating that supports cleaning routines. Ceiling and wall mounting are available; the wall version can, for example, hold a TV in a patient room. Ceiling covers come in 400 x 400 mm or 580 x 580 mm, and the structure above the ceiling must be designed for the combined load; see installation requirements.
If the room also has pendants, compare how the two systems share the ceiling. SPR can sit alongside rotating pendants such as TAURUS, and for SIMEON's alternative suspension see Sim.FLEX.
The wall version is a practical option in patient rooms and day-care areas where ceiling space is limited, for example to carry a TV or a monitor at a convenient height.
Specifying SPR
List the equipment for each arm with weights, define the mounting type, cover size, arm length and rotation limits, and request the manufacturer's load and range data for each variant. Ask about maintenance and how balance is readjusted.
