MZ Liberec TAURUS is the newest pendant in the Czech maker's range, designed mainly for operating rooms, intensive care and anaesthesia-resuscitation departments. It is modular, with rotating arms, a four-sided equipment rail and a height-adjustable version. This guide summarises the published data and suggests what to check when writing a tender specification for TAURUS.
TAURUS at a glance
MZ Liberec a.s. continues a tradition of medical and technical gas distribution that goes back to 1957, and its programme covers bed head units, medical beams and rotating ceiling pendants. TAURUS is the latest generation of the ceiling pendant line, intended for operating theatres, intensive care and anaesthesia-resuscitation units.
Rigid, single-arm, double-arm and tandem configurations are offered, as well as a height-adjustable version with a tilting arm. That range of layouts lets planners cover an anaesthesia head-end unit, a surgical service pendant and an ICU bed-side unit from one platform.
Arms, load and movement
The arms rotate and are available in lengths of 450-1350 mm. Maximum arm load is stated as up to 500 kg for a single 850 mm arm and 320 kg for a double 850 + 850 mm arrangement. Arms rotate up to 400 degrees with pneumatic brakes or 350 degrees with electromagnetic brakes, and every swivel joint also has a passive friction brake.
Position is controlled by buttons on the shelf or handle. When you compare options, verify what happens in a loss of air pressure or electrical failure, and how the brakes are released in an emergency. Ask the supplier to show the manual release procedure and confirm the maintenance interval; see pendant maintenance and cleaning.
Remember that total load includes the dynamic forces generated when an arm is moved, not only the static weight of equipment on shelves and holders. Compare the published figures with the drawing for your exact configuration and with the structural design of the ceiling.
- Rotating arm length 450-1350 mm
- Arm load up to 500 kg (850 mm single arm) or 320 kg (850 + 850 mm)
- Rotation up to 400 degrees (pneumatic) or 350 degrees (electromagnetic)
- Passive friction brake in every swivel joint
Rail system, shelves and cable management
A vertical rail on all four sides of the column takes shelves, monitor holders and IV-pole arms, with a maximum shelf payload of 60 kg. This makes it easy to give each team its own equipment layout and to change it later without replacing the pendant. Built-in cable management keeps wiring hidden, which helps cleaning and reduces cable wear.
360-degree LED RGB lighting provides adjustable colour and intensity. Gas outlets are made in-house to national standards, including DIN, AFNOR, BS and AGA among others, so state your pipeline standard in the order. For help deciding shelves, drawers and outlets, use the configuration checklist.
If the room will be integrated with video and data, agree the position of network and video points on the column with the integrator in advance. Adding channels to a finished pendant is harder than specifying them at order stage.
Height-adjustable version
The height-adjustable TAURUS has a tilting arm with a lift of 540, 710 or 965 mm. This suits rooms where the unit is used by staff of different heights, where the head must be lowered for use and raised for cleaning, or where ceiling height is generous. In low rooms, check the total drop and the clearance to lights and monitor arms.
For a general comparison of fixed, retractable and height-adjustable pendants, see rigid vs motorised pendants. Compare also MZ Liberec's other families such as OK07 if your project needs different arm lengths or head types.
Specifying and installing TAURUS
Write the specification around the configuration: number and length of arms, brake type, rail positions, shelves, gas and electrical outlets, lighting and colours. Request the manufacturer's drawing with loads and connection positions for structural and first-fix design; our installation requirements guide lists the points to check.
Request the declaration of conformity and test documentation relevant to the project, and confirm current registration requirements with the UAE authorities. Beckfinity supplies TAURUS and other MZ Liberec products, and can coordinate delivery, installation and service. Contact our specialists for a consultation or quote.
