SIMEON Sim.LED 4500 for minor surgery, ICU and emergency rooms

Updated 14 October 2026 · 4 min read

The SIMEON Sim.LED 4500 is a compact LED light that delivers a homogeneous light field with good depth of illumination in a small housing, which makes it suitable for examinations and minor outpatient procedures. This overview is written for department heads who need to light an emergency room, an ICU, a plastic surgery room or a procedure room.

What the Sim.LED 4500 is designed for

Not every procedure needs a full surgical dome. Wound care, suturing, minor excisions, dressing changes and bedside procedures need strong, shadow-free light but not the size of a main theatre light. The 4500 fills this gap, with 100,000 lx central illuminance at 1 m, a dimming range of 25,000 to 100,000 lx, colour temperature of 4,500 K and Ra 96.

The light field d10 at 1 m is 170 mm, and the power consumption of the light head is 28 W. The compact housing is easy to position at the bedside and over a procedure table, and the low power draw lowers the heat in small rooms.

Optics and shadow control

The 4500 uses SIMEON's patented reflector technology and the triangle design that arranges the reflectors to minimise shadows. A homogeneous field and good depth of illumination are important in wounds and cavities, where the view is narrow. Details on the principle are in how shadowless lights work.

Ceiling, wall or mobile

The light is available as a ceiling, wall or mobile version, so you can adapt it to the room instead of changing the room to the light. A ceiling version suits a dedicated procedure room, a wall version suits a room with limited ceiling space and a mobile version lets one light serve several bays or rooms.

The mobile stands of the SIMEON range are available with or without a battery back-up, using removable batteries in a single or double battery arrangement, see SIMEON Sim.LED mobile lights. In emergency areas with unstable mains, that is a useful safety layer; see also battery-powered mobile surgical lights.

In emergency and ICU rooms the light is often moved or adjusted by several staff in a shift. A low weight head and a smooth body reduce the strain and the number of places where dirt can collect. Agree who is responsible for cleaning the handle and the glass after each patient.

  • Ceiling: dedicated procedure room, fixed table position.
  • Wall: compact rooms, ICU bays and treatment rooms.
  • Mobile: shared use, emergency areas and rooms without ceiling reinforcement.

Hygiene

The body is seamlessly closed, with Anti.BAC antibacterial coating and scratch-resistant safety glass, so the light can be disinfected quickly between patients. In ICU and emergency settings, where cleaning time is limited, a smooth surface without crevices makes a real difference.

Confirm the cleaning agents with your infection control team and include the light in the room's cleaning schedule.

A practical way to size the lighting is to list the procedures per room, their duration and the number of staff working at the same time. A short list of two or three procedures with a few minutes each is a good case for the 4500, while a daily list of longer interventions points to a larger dome.

Choosing between the 4500 and other lights

If your procedures include real surgery with longer cases, step up to a surgical light such as the BusinessLine Sim.LED 450, 500 and 700. If you only need examination light, compare with the Sim.LED 3500+ examination light. The difference between examination and surgical lights is explained in examination vs surgical light.

Check the room, the minimum ceiling height and the table position before you choose the version. A short site survey prevents wrong mounting.
