ulrich CT motion Injector: Features, Workflow and Fit

Updated 14 October 2026 · 4 min read

ulrich CT motion is a syringeless contrast media injector for CT with three media connection points and pump tubing that stays in use for 24 hours. This overview explains how the system works, what each feature means in daily practice, the key technical data from the manufacturer and the type of department it suits. It is distributed in the UAE by Beckfinity.

How the CT motion syringeless injector works

CT motion automatically administers contrast media and saline during CT examinations. It is a roll-pump system: instead of syringes, a pump delivers fluid from original containers through a pump tubing set. The tubing is set up once a day and stays in use for 24 hours; between patients only the patient tubing is changed, so the next examination is ready within seconds.

Because there is no syringe to fill and mount, the working steps are fewer and the preparation time between patients is short. For the principle compared with syringe systems see our syringeless versus syringe article.

In practice, the daily routine is simple. At the start of the day the technologist connects the 24-hour pump tubing to the contrast and saline containers and primes the system. For each patient the patient tubing is connected to the cannula, the protocol is selected on the touch terminal and the injection is started, either manually or in sync with the scanner if the optional interface is fitted.

Three media connections and the CT motion pump tubing

Two contrast media connections and one saline connection draw directly from original containers of up to 500 ml for contrast (2 × 500 ml) and up to 2,000 ml for saline. The Seamless function switches automatically to a second container of the same contrast medium, so a list is not interrupted when one container empties. An optional Tandem function allows a second contrast medium.

The ct motion pump tubing is the 24-hour element. Dual air detection monitors the pump and the patient tubing and stops the injection if air bubbles are found. An integrated heater keeps contrast warm to improve viscosity.

Containers are standard commercial packs rather than special syringes, which simplifies stock keeping: pharmacy supplies the contrast the department already uses, and staff only need to match the container to the connection. Training should still cover container changes, air purging and what to do when an alarm appears; see the set-up guide.

  • Two contrast and one saline connection
  • Containers: 2 × 500 ml contrast, up to 2,000 ml saline
  • Seamless automatic switchover; optional Tandem
  • Dual air detection in pump and patient tubing
  • Integrated contrast media heater

Technical data and optional software

The maximum system pressure is 17 bar (246.6 psi). The pedestal unit measures 645 × 645 × 1,445 mm and weighs 79 kg. For higher flow and 1-litre containers, the manufacturer offers CT motion SPICY, with pressure up to 22.4 bar.

Two software options connect the injector to its environment: SYNCopen starts injector and scanner together and shows protocols on the CT console, and the RIS/PACS Interface sends a contrast media dose report by DICOM. Both are described in the scanner interface article.

Who CT motion suits

The 24-hour tubing and quick patient change favour departments with a steady flow of contrast examinations, such as hospital CT suites and busy imaging centres. A modest-volume centre can also benefit, because there is no syringe preparation, but should calculate disposables per patient using its own figures; the consumables guide shows how.

Check pressure needs against your protocols. If you routinely work with high flow rates or highly viscous media, compare with the higher-pressure version before deciding.

Consider also the room. The pedestal unit is a floor-standing device with a footprint of 645 × 645 mm; where floor space is tight, ask about the ceiling-mounted option offered with CT motion SPICY and compare mounting options before you finalise the layout.

Frequently asked questions

Is CT motion a syringeless injector?

Yes. It uses a roll pump and 24-hour pump tubing instead of syringes. Only the patient tubing is changed between patients.

What containers does CT motion use?

Original containers of up to 500 ml for contrast media (two connections) and up to 2,000 ml for saline.

What is the maximum pressure of CT motion?

17 bar (246.6 psi). CT motion SPICY reaches 22.4 bar.

Does CT motion detect air?

Yes, dual air detection monitors the pump and the patient tubing and stops the injection if bubbles are found.
